Magnificient Russia

very good
8.1

The world's largest country offers it all, from historic cities and idyllic countryside to artistic riches, epic train rides and vodka-fuelled nightlife.
Historic & Contemporary If ancient walled fortresses, glittering palaces and swirly-spired churches are what you’re after, focus on European Russia. Here, Moscow and St Petersburg are the must-see destinations, twin repositories of eye-boggling national treasures, political energies and contemporary creativity. Within easy reach of these cities are charming historical towns and villages, such as Veliky Novgorod, Pskov and Suzdal, where the vistas dotted with onion domes and lined with gingerbread cottages measure up to the rural Russia of popular imagination.

Day 5
Nizhni Novgorod- Makarjevo- Cheboksary
We leave the busiest roads and divert to look at the world, large plains, fir forests, lakes en route, and villages of wooden houses. MAKARIEVO shows us its great 15th century monastery on the banks of the Volga, a beautiful place virtually inaccessible to tourism. We cross the river Volga by ferry (a crossing of around 20 minutes, cargo ferries to cross the river, in very limited conditions), lunch included. We continue to CHEBOKSARY, the capital of the Republic of Chuvashia, a beautiful and tidy city on the banks of the Volga. Its population speaks Chuvashian, a language of Turkish origin. The city will receive us with a small folkloric show (if the group is under 12 people, this show is not given). Dinner included.
